The budget you need to study in Germany and how to achieve it

According to a study of the German “Studentenwerk“ of the Saarland (i.e. the institution that is in charge of students’ accommodation, catering, counselling, finances, etc.;  www.studentenwerk-saarland.de/en ) the average student spends over 900€ a month for food, clothing, telephone and internet, with the biggest expense being accommodation rent. Rent prices vary from place to place throughout Germany with the most expensive area being Munich. Students also have the opportunity to share an apartment with other students and so share expenses (e.g. www.wg-gesucht.de).

Students are expected to pay tuition fees twice a year to finance among others the student council.
To earn money, students have different opportunities. Especially for international students scholar ships, mini-jobs and part-time jobs or jobs at their university (sometimes called Hiwi in Germany) are most helpful. Maybe sometimes study credits or parental help is a financial help, too. German students also have child benefit and Bafög (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz: a social security benefit for students) to receive financial help.
